The mark of a true artist is the ability to create something out of nothingness. They’re alchemists, magicians, and restauranteurs. Rose Cafe – Restaurant, was once a pile of construction materials abandoned from a gas company dispatch office, whose beauty was buried deep under the rubble. The community of artists used the walls of the restaurant, which had a ‘gallery-like’ atmosphere, as a canvas to display their work. The cafe soon became a landmark location.

That was 1979. Now, or, yesterday, the Rose Cafe re-opened its walls with a fresh design and menu, with all the authenticity of its original culture intact. Roses may have thorns and petals, but they also grew from roots– roots that the community grew to know and love. Owners Bill Chait (Sprout LA) and chef Jason Neroni (Superba, Catch & Release) have done a beautiful job of showcasing all sides of The Rose.

The local icon deserves the best of the best, and Chef Jason Neroni brings just that. The Rose’s menu focuses on local SoCal cuisine with diverse influence from Neroni’s international travels. Chait’s eye for design and art places those flavors in an atmosphere just as exquisite.

Until the first week of December, the restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and a quick service menu. The full menu debuts next month.

Menu highlights for breakfast include; pumpkin pancake: chocolate chips, bacon crumble, Vermont’s finest maple syrup; lower east side breakfast; beet-cured salmon, orange marmalade, farmers’ cheese, arugula; the rose breakfast burrito, scrambled eggs, poblano mole, smoked cheddar, crispy potatoes, as well as juice, shots, and smoothies made in-house.

Menu highlights for lunch include; lamb shwarma pizza, pickled fresno chile, cherry tomatoes, cucumber yogurt; ricotta gnocchi, sopressata-fennel ragu, pickled calabrian chilies; crispy brussels sprouts, dash broth, poached egg, scallions; patty melt, aged cheddar, kraut, caramelized onions, mushrooms; kale salad, parmesan cheese, pine nuts, jalapeño-pickled apricots, mint.

The best part? The Rose Cafe – Restaurant continues to celebrate the art of the community by featuring original works from our local friends and world renowned artists.
