On Thursday, June 7, 2012, the Pasadena Police Department will host its 3rd Annual Police Motorcycle Skills Competition and Training event at the Rose Bowl.
Over 100 motorcycle officers from all over the State of California will descend on Lot F at the Rose Bowl to demonstrate their riding experience and skills, as they negotiate several cone patterns in a friendly competition. “It is our hope that today’s training will help enhance those skills, allowing motorcycle officers to perform their daily law enforcement duties in the most safe and effective manner. In addition to great competition, we hope to facilitate professional networking and promote camaraderie among this elite group of law enforcement officers,” says Police Chief Phillip L. Sanchez.
This year’s event is being hosted in honor of Hawthorne Police Department Motorcycle Officer Andrew Garton, who was killed in the line of duty last May while conducting a police escort. Officer Garton participated in the Pasadena Police Department’s Skills Competition last year. In addition to the Officer Andrew Garton Memorial Fund, a portion of the proceeds from the competition will benefit the Pasadena Police Activities League.
The event is open to the public and free of charge. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase on site. Vendor displays and merchandise will be on hand as well. The opening ceremony will begin at 8:00 am, with competitions following throughout the day.
