Glendale officials Wednesday announced the appointment of Manuel Cid as the city’s new police chief.
“I am incredibly humbled and honored to be joining the Glendale Police Department, an organization I have respected and admired for many years,” Cid said in a statement. “I consider the opportunity to serve the Glendale community as their Police Chief to be a great privilege and responsibility, one that I will approach with unwavering professionalism, humility, and a commitment to work in partnership with our entire community.”
Cid was appointed by city officials on Tuesday night. A 20-year veteran of the Culver City Police Department, he had been that city’s police chief for the past two years.
“We are excited to appoint Chief Cid as Glendale’s new Police Chief. His background and leadership experience make me feel confident that our city will continue to be one of the safest cities in the nation,” said Glendale Mayor Ardy Kassakhian. “We look forward to working with him and look forward to him becoming a part of the Glendale community serving our wonderful city.”
Cid has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Whittier College, and a Master’s degree in public administration and organizational leadership from National University.
Cid’s tenure as Glendale’s police chief will become effective on Jan. 16. His predecessor, Carl Povilaitis, retired in October after 32 years of service. Acting Police Chief Andrew Jenks will resume his previous role as the Captain of the Support Services Bureau once Cid begins his term.
