Senior Alyssa Aragon was a bright spot for the Muir varsity softball team last year.

Aragon, a junior at the time, batted a strong .421 average with 14 RBI. However, Aragon was just as valuable to the team as a pitcher, where she notched 78 strikeouts on the season.

“It was a good year for me,” Aragon said. “I think for the team, it was more of a learning experience. I feel like we could have done better.”

Aragon has played softball since she was 4-years-old. She played at different levels, including travel ball until she started at Muir.

“I started on varsity as a freshman. It was different because I played travel ball for many years,” Aragon said. “Trying to adjust to that was different. It wasn’t as competitive.”

For this season, Aragon said she wants to improve her batting and her speed. However, she’s just as focused on bringing the team together, improving their chemistry, because they struggled with that last year.

After graduation, Aragon said she aims to find a college where she can continue to play softball.

“I’d like to stay close to home, but if I had an opportunity to play far away, I’d take it,” Aragon said.

Aragon plans on going into the medical field, but she isn’t sure exactly what area she wants to go into.

“The medical field interests me a lot. I like science,” Aragon said.

When she’s not playing softball, Aragon works at Villa Gardens retirement community.

“I care a lot about other people,” Aragon said. “I’m always looking to learn more and do better.”
