As we delve further and further into the high school football season, it’s become clear the Arcadia Apaches have made blowout victories a weekly routine and will not stop anytime soon.
Arcadia’s 63-6 win over Glendale on Friday saw a team effort from the Apaches against a team that has not beaten them since 2014. In the first half, Arcadia did a near perfect job limiting the Nitros offense as they prevented them from recording one single first down.
It wasn’t until the third quarter when Glendale was finally able to get on the board with its only touchdown of the night. This marked the end of Glendale’s streak of 14 scoreless quarters against the Apaches dating back to 2014.
The polished Apaches offense went about its business as usual, scoring 48 first-half points before subbing in the reserves after the break. On the first play of the game, Rolandiss Whitener returned the opening kickoff after picking the ball up near Arcadia’s end zone and driving it all the way down the field for the touchdown.
Whitener’s unrelenting speed and crafty movement this season has made him arguably the most lethal player on the field. His skillset had made it that much easier for quarterback Dylan Guerra, who had a tremendously efficient outing against Glendale, throwing 12 of 15 for 153 yards and four touchdowns.
Ahmad Lipscomb, Oscar Aldridge, Jabari Kindle and Dylan Wright also got in on Arcadia’s fun as they each scored a touchdown off a connection with Guerra.
With the victory, Arcadia remains atop the Pacific League standings at 4-0 while improving to a 5-2 overall record. The remainder of the schedule features opponents who are all at .500 or above, including Pasadena (2-2) on Friday, Muir (3-1) on Oct. 19 and Crescenta Valley (3-1) on Oct. 26.
