Andrew Policky Resigns as Head Football Coach for AHS

We heard late last week that the beloved head football coach for Arcadia has tendered his resignation, effective immediately. He remains a teacher at the high school.

While there has been much speculation about Policky’s decision, Arcadia Weekly requested comment from Ryan Foran, Arcadia Unified School District’s public information officer for comment:

“We’ve done a lot over the past several years for athletics and the football team had an amazing year last season making it all the way to the CIF championship game. Our current principal is amazing, she actually coached volleyball for years and played sports growing up so she truly loves and supports athletics. We will definitely miss Andrew as a coach. He did amazing things and a lot of volunteer work in the community with his team.

“We are incredibly grateful for the 11 years (four as an assistant and the last seven as the head coach) Coach Policky dedicated to the Arcadia High School football program. He made such a positive impact on so many lives and put in countless hours for his players. He also ensured our players gave back and were leaders in our community. His teams volunteered at the Foothill Unity Center every holiday season and also stepped up to help the Special Olympics when Arcadia was a host city. On the field, Coach Policky brought Arcadia High School to its first CIF Championship game in 40 years in 2018. It was so exciting to see the team have that level of success again and to watch the community rally around the Apaches and pack Salter Stadium for that historic title game. As a former Apache himself, Andrew was also a tremendous player for the team. We know the team means so much to him, and we hope he knows how much he means to the Apache football program. Andrew’s Apache legacy is firmly set, and we can’t thank him enough. Once an Apache, always an Apache.” 

Coach Policky contacted Arcadia Weekly via Foran:

“I’m so proud of my time as both a player and a coach for the Apaches. I’m extremely thankful for my amazing coaches and staff over the years, and especially the players. We had a lot of fun, grew together as a program, and were able to reach a lot of our goals. I’m also very grateful for the Apache parents over the years and all of their endless support. Football is truly a team sport, and I was honored to lead this great team for so many years.”
