Pasadena Locks Up Share of League Title with Solid Win Over Hoover

No one said it was going to be easy, but it’s difficult to think otherwise as Pasadena boys’ basketball has seemingly breezed through Pacific league action.

With their latest 89-69 blowout over Hoover on Tuesday, the Bulldogs have done it again and claimed at least a share of the Pacific League title. Their 11-0 record has them sitting pretty on top of the standings and will now only need one more win to become outright champs.

Despite Pasadena’s dominance, it took a while for the team to get going against Hoover. At the end of the first quarter, both squads were knotted up at 18, but it was Hoover that wound up taking a 37-35 lead into halftime.

It was an exceptional half for the Tornadoes considering they were tied with Arcadia for last place with a 1-9 record. However, Pasadena went into maximum overdrive in the third quarter by outscoring Hoover 24-10.

Pasadena poured it on in the final frame as they cruised to their seventh straight victory. This game also marked the Bulldogs’ eighth this season in which they won by 20 points or more.

The Bulldogs’ offense was led by senior Darius Mason-Robertson, who finished with 28 points, six rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocks. Davian Brown also had himself a nice outing as he dropped 10 points to go along with six rebounds, six assists and three blocks.

Other than winning a piece of the league title, Pasadena also received a good performance from Danny Pina, who is just coming off an injury that had him sidelined for quite some time. The senior tallied 20 points while dishing out five assists.

Pasadena will look to claim the Pacific League title all for themselves as they host Burroughs (4-6) on Friday at 7 p.m.
