Double murder suspect Deyun “Jeff” Shi, 44, appeared in Pasadena Superior Court on Monday, May 2, to face arraignment of the alleged brutal slaying of his two nephews on Jan 22.

However, the people and attorneys agreed that Shi needed more time to collect funds from China for his defense. The arraignment was delayed until May 18.

Attorney Barry L. Greenhalgh and a Mandarin interpreter were present at this, the second court appearance in front of Judge Terry Smerling since Shi’s extradition from Hong Kong.

The suspect in the double homicides appeared more responsive to questions this date. At one point as he was being led back to jail, Shi looked over at the general public area of the court.

Shi also allegedly attacked his estranged wife with a wood-splitting tool then bludgeoned to death his two teenage nephews on Jan. 22.

Shi was extradited to the US on Friday, April 15, from Hong Kong where he fled after the double homicide.

Prosecutors had charged Shi with killing 15-year-old Anthony Lin and 16-year-old William Lin in their Fairview Avenue Arcadia home on Jan. 22.

Shi remains in the custody of LASD at Twin Towers.
