Muir football is quietly emerging as the clear-cut dark horse in the Pacific League as it collected its second consecutive shutout with a 36-0 thumping of Burroughs on Friday.

The Mustangs have put together a worthy 2018 campaign thus far as they’ve only lost once, which was to Pacific League rival Crescenta Valley on Sept. 14. While the in-game brawl with Stellar Prep during Week 3 did get several players suspended for the following game, it didn’t seem to disrupt Muir’s focus and rhythm.

Going into the contest, Burroughs had only won one game and was ultimately overwhelmed by a much more seasoned and polished Mustangs team. Muir’s offense was steady the entire way through, scoring 17 points in the first half and 19 in the second.

In all of the team’s victories this season, the Mustangs have come out on top by an average margin of 37.2 points. Friday’s win over the Indians improved Muir’s league record to 3-1, which puts it in a three-way tie for second place along with Crescenta Valley and Burbank.

Lo and behold, Muir will remain at home for their next game on Friday, which will be against Burbank. This match-up will of course carry heavy implications as to who will gain a slight advantage in the race for the Pacific League title.
