The El Monte Police Department has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety to enhance enforcement procedures, authorities announced Friday.
“Impairment, speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors jeopardize the safety of other people on the road,” El Monte police Chief David Reynoso said in a statement.
“This funding allows us to provide necessary traffic enforcement measures with the goal of reducing serious injury and fatal crashes on our roads. It will also allow us to educate and enhance the safety of all El Monte residents.”
The grant will pay for additional enforcement measures, including DUI checkpoints, bicycle and pedestrian safety programs and warrant service operations targeting multiple DUI offenders who fail to appear in court. The grant program will run through September of 2022.
Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
