After a brief hiatus during the pandemic, the Street Rods Forever car club will return to Myrtle Avenue this Saturday for their annual car show. In addition, soap box racing will also return.
The day will begin with a tribute to the events of Sept. 11, 2001, at Monrovia Fire Station 1, located at 140 E. Lime Ave., at 8 a.m. This tribute will continue until 8:30 a.m. At that time the opening ceremony for the soap box racing will get underway. Racing and the car show will start at 9 a.m. on Myrtle Avenue. The car show is scheduled to conclude at 3 p.m.
One change from the usual all “American iron” on display at the show is that there will be a small British invasion. Members of the Austin Healey club will also be attending.
One thing not to miss is the “grudge match” between Police Chief Alan Sanvictores and Fire Chief Brad Dover. This is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. Fortunately for the two chiefs, the soap box racing organizers, principally Jeff Hunt of the Finish Line, obtained two adult size racers—one blue, one red. You can just imagine which chief will be in which racer.
