Caltrans announces 55-hour full closure of I-210 in Sylmar over weekend

The California Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that a portion of the I-210 heading westbound will face a 55-hour full closure starting Friday, July 9 at 10 p.m. and ending on Monday, July 12 at 5 a.m.

The closure will affect all on and off-ramps between Interstate 5 (I-5) and Roxford St. Drivers are asked to use State Route 118 (SR-118) as the alternate route to reach the I-5 and avoid the area of full closure.

The closure is the result of paving work that has been in the works since earlier this summer with the announcement of a $135.5 million project that will be replacing all lanes of the freeway from Wheatland Ave. to the entrance of I-5.

Funded by the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 from Senate Bill 1, the project is meant to “provide 40 years of service life to the pavement and provide a smoother ride for motorists” according to a Caltrans press release.

Caltrans is reminding citizens who reside near the freeway that noise, vibrations and dust should be expected due to construction efforts. With this, they also stated that some closures are subject to change, meaning drivers should check traffic conditions before commuting to their destination. Motorists can do so with the Caltrans Quickmap.
