Con Gioia Presents Music for Two Harpsichords

From Paris, Dresden, Leipzig, and Riga

Con Gioia Early Music Ensemble presents Music for Two Harpsichords from Paris, Dresden, Leipzig, and Riga, featuring Preethi de Silva, Ruta Bloomfield, and Stephan Moss, on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at 4 p.m. at the historic and intimate Church of the Angels at 1100 Avenue 64 in Pasadena (www.coa-pasadena.org). The concert will also feature Franco-Flemish- and German-style harpsichords by two renowned American makers, Frank Hubbard and John Phillips.

The program for two harpsichords includes the following rarely performed works: François Couperin, L’Apothéose de Corelli; J. S. Bach, Concerto in C major, BWV 1061A; Johann Ludwig Krebs, Concerto in A minor; Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Concerto in F major, Fk. 10 and Johann Gottfried Müthel, Allegretto from Duetto in E-flat major. It will be an extraordinary occasion on which the listener will have an opportunity to hear two magnificent harpsichords in a selection of memorable works.

Preethi de Silva, founder and artistic director of Con Gioia, is an internationally acclaimed performer and recording artist on harpsichord and fortepiano (www.congioia.org). Accomplished concert harpsichordist-scholar Ruta Bloomefield is professor of music at Master’s College, Newhall, Los Angeles (http://rutabloomfield.com), and Stephan Moss, is an admirable performer of chamber music in the Los Angeles area on both harpsichord and piano.
