Six Pasadena residents have requested applications to fill the City Council’s District 7 formerly held by newly elected Mayor Terry Tornek.
The candidates are Ciran Hadijan, Margaret York, Don Morgan, Lorena Yepez Hernandez, Andy Wilson and Tim Lan.
The council will convene a special meeting in June to interview the candidates individually. Each candidate will make a presentation to the council before members appoint one hopeful to fill the vacant seat.
Whoever is appointed will serve until May 1, 2017.
Pasadena’s charter states that the council has 75 days, in this case until July 17, to choose and install Tornek’s successor.
Hadijan, is an urban planner and former city planning commissioner.
York is the former chief of the Los Angeles County Police Department and was the LAPD’s first female deputy chief.
Morgan ran for mayor in March and came in third. He is a community development consultant and professor at the University of Southern California.
Yepez Hernandez is a senior associate at VMA Communications and a member of the Pasadena Commission on the Status of Women.
Wilson has served on the city’s planning and design commissions .
Lan is an attorney with Phillips Law Partners, a Los Angeles-based law firm.
