Community Outreach Campaign with Baseball Cards Sure to be a Grandslam

Maybe now that Charter is promising to show Dodger’s Games soon, there will be some renewed interest in the boys in blue. Certainly, the LASD is doing its part to promote both teams…a winning combination that will inspire collectors and help the Sheriff’s Dept recruit some talent.

Los Angeles Sheriff Jim McDonnell and the Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that, for the first time, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department will participate in an historic community engagement program to launch the LASD’s community outreach and recruiting with one of L.A’s most renown sports teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
From June 1st through the end of baseball season in October, Deputies will be handing out one million Topps branded Dodger baseball cards which feature a Dodger player and an LASD Deputy specifically selected by their command staff for their exceptional work in mentoring youth and their work with non-profits. Deputies range from a Presidential Medal of Valor recipient to deputies who have started charities here and internationally abroad.
Their work will be featured in more than 80 “Officer of the Game” salutes at Dodger Stadium on game days, in weekly Dodger radio advertisements on AM570 in English and Spanish and be featured on their website www.AM570Radio.com

“This opportunity with the Dodgers also provides opportunities for our youth at our LASD Youth Athletic Leagues, 100 of whom will get to play ball with Dodger players at a Dodger skills clinic and attend some of the games,” says Sheriff Jim McDonnell, “At the same time, this is a great opportunity to share career opportunities. We want our communities to be part of the solution in their neighborhoods. And for us, that starts with hiring the best of the best to work for the nation’s largest Sheriff’s Department.”
The Sheriff’s Department is continuing to hire the most qualified candidates to fill hundreds of career opportunities. The Dodger partnership comes at a time when Sheriff McDonnell is simultaneously launching the LASD Community Outreach youth sports programs that offer strategic pathways to build social skills and college scholarship opportunities.
