Bert J. (Hans Davidson), physician and Executive Director of the Southern California Medical Museum, will present an illustrated lecture on the medical care administered during the Civil War, before the development of modern evidence-based medicine. Overwhelmed by infectious diseases, lack of trained doctors and supplies, and without a concept of hygiene, soldiers faced a high mortality rate both on and off the battlefield.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for viewing of the Civil War-related exhibitions When Johnny Came Marching West – which includes a display of period medical equipment and supplies – and Thaddeus Lowe: Chief Aeronaut of the Union Army. A wine and cheese reception is also included.
