Former Pasadena Councilman Sid Tyler dies
Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard issued the following statement after receiving the news of the sudden death of Sid Tyler.
“Pasadena has lost one of its most distinguished and admired citizens. He was distinguished for his accomplishments in the private sector, including as a senior financial executive in health services, and in the public sector, as a dedicated and effective member of the Pasadena City Council. He was admired for his steady and humane friendship for all of the persons who came to know him.
This community will not be the same without Sid Tyler, who was uniquely able to offer effective help and impeccable judgment on the many issues Pasadena has faced over the years. When the problem on the table was too complicated for the rest of us, it was Sid Tyler to whom we turned for a thoughtful and workable solution.
We will forever remember Sid for his dedication to trees—to Pasadena’s urban forest—and for his valor in supporting that great community resource. In many ways, as a Councilmember and an active member of the community, Sid shaped Pasadena as it exists today and we all owe him a debt of gratitude. He was an inspiration to me and all the Councilmembers, as well as to many others, and he always will be.
On behalf of a grateful and admiring community, I extend condolences and concern to Betsey and all of the Tyler Family. We acknowledge and share your profound loss. “
As a further mark of respect to former Councilmember Tyler and the Tyler Family, Mayor Bogaard has requested that flags be lowered at all City buildings to half-staff effective immediately, until further notice.
