Arcadia City Council Candidates Thursday at Arcadia Chamber

8 a.m. Thursday, March 6 at Government Affairs Forum

On  Thursday morning, Feb. 6, at 8 a.m. the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce’s Government Affairs Forum is providing the first chance for the public to hear and meet candidates for the Arcadia City Council Election in April.
For the first time in decades, there are no incumbents running for three open seats, ensuring there will be at least two and potentially a majority of first-time Council Members serving in that role. Three of the candidates are newcomers to the process, while one, Roger Chandler, has served multiple terms in the past, and another, Sho Tay, is familiar to voters as a candidate in previous elections.

Although the Chamber and Arcadia Association of Realtors will host a full 90-minute Meet the Candidates Forum at the Arcadia Public Library on March 6, the Government Affairs Forum is providing an opportunity for each candidate to introduce themselves briefly during the meeting Thursday, and respond to a few questions.

Four of the five candidates vying for the three open seats will attend Thursday’s Forum:

  • Paul Van Fleet
  • Sho Tay
  • Roger Chandler
  • Thomas Beck

A statement of introduction and position will be read on behalf of the fifth candidate who cannot make it to this month’s Forum: Burton Brink.

As always, a discussion of pending legislation and other updates will be provided by representatives from City, County, and State government offices, the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension and the Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte Town Council.

The public is invited on the first Thursday of each month to hear informative presentations at the monthly Government Affairs Forum led by Chairman Jack Orswell from Orswell & Kasman, Inc. Environmental Assessments & Consulting, and co-chairman Pete Ulrich, former Arcadia City Councilman.
