Authorities Monday seized hundreds of cannabis plants being grown illegally in a Claremont residence, which was red-tagged by the city, police said.
Officers served a search warrant in the 100 block of Kirkwood Avenue about 8 a.m., according to the Claremont Police Department.
“Officers found every room of the home filled with marijuana plants and removed 667 marijuana plants in various stages of growth,” police said in a statement. No arrests were reported.
Investigators also found about 120 pounds of drying cannabis and about 80 pounds of processed cannabis, police said. The combined street-sale value of the seized items was about $500,000, police said.
“The extreme measures used to illegally grow the marijuana endangered the neighborhood,” police said. “The home was filled with non-code compliant wiring used to power special lighting and air filtration systems. These lighting systems are often the source of fires within a (marijuana) grow.”
Authorities disconnected the lighting system to eliminate the hazard to the public, and the city’s building inspector red-tagged the building, deeming it unsafe to occupy, police said.
“The investigation remains active in an attempt to determine who is responsible for the grow,” police said.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call police at 909- 399-5411.
