A Union Pacific freight train struck a vehicle on the tracks in Montebello Friday, and the Metrolink Riverside Line was affected.
The crash occurred about 4:10 a.m. near Union Street and Rosemead Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
It was unclear what led to the crash, but the train crew was not hurt, according to a spokesman for Union Pacific Railroad. He said the vehicle was believed to be unoccupied, and the crash did not occur at a crossing.
Union Pacific is coordinating with the LASD to investigate the incident, which caused the closure of westbound tracks about 4:45 a.m. between Metrolink’s Industry and Montebello stations, delaying Riverside Line 401 to Los Angeles.
Around 5:47 a.m., Metrolink announced trains for Line 401 were moving, but with a delay of 30 minutes due to the crash. That estimate has not been revised as of 11:20 a.m.
