The crime occurred about 9:50 p.m. Monday in the 1600 block of South Benito Avenue, where officers were sent on a 911 call, according to the Alhambra Police Department.
“The caller reported that an unknown male subject knocked on the front door of a residence, asked for a resident by name, and shot her several times with a handgun when she came to the door,” according to a police statement.
The suspect was described as Hispanic, 20-30 years old and 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a heavyset build. He wore a black sweater and blue jeans, and was armed with a semiautomatic handgun.
The 30-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, police said. Her name was not released.
