Arcadia High School Marching Band Selected to March in 2021 Rose Parade
By Terry Miller
At Friday’s Arcadia High School football game, the Executive Vice President of the Tournament of Roses Bob Miller made a surprise announcement at halftime immediately after the 300-plus student marching band performed.
The coveted secret was that the marching band has been selected to march in the 2021 Rose Parade. While dressed in their Halloween costumes, the student musicians let out an audible sign of wonderment.
Being selected to march in the Rose Bowl Parade is a very prestigious recognition and this will be Arcadia High’s 17th appearance in the Rose Parade in addition to marching in two Presidential Inaugurations.
Arcadia High has one of the largest high school marching bands in the state. Coincidentally, the school also has a student on this year’s Rose Court.
The AHS Marching Band has performed at the Presidential Inauguration in 2005 for George W. Bush and at the Presidential Inauguration in 1957 for Dwight Eisenhower.
Additionally, the award winning band performed at the halftime show of the very first Super Bowl in L.A. in 1967 and was the only high school marching band to be selected to appear in an NFL super bowl commercial a few years ago.
