Community Meetings Set to Discuss Proposed Developments

City Manager Oliver Chi has announced that the developers of two new housing projects have been scheduled for two informational project meetings regarding two properties near Station Square. The purpose of these meetings, according to Chi, is to get input from Monrovia residents during the planning stages and to answer any questions that individuals may have regarding the housing initiatives.

Chi also noted these meetings are being coordinated by the developers and not the city. He also said additional information about these projects and other projects is available on the city’s website cityofmonrovia.org and entering Development Spotlight in the search box. Other questions can be directed to Planning Division Manager Sheri Bermejo at sbermejo@ci.monrovia.ca.

The first meeting will be regarding Arroyo at Station Square, a residential complex with some mixed-use space. The meeting regarding the use of this space between Pomona and Evergreen avenues from Primrose to Magnolia avenues will be on Monday, Dec. 3 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. This space is just a block north of the Gold Line Station. Fittingly the meeting will be held in the Knights of Columbus Hall at 130 W. Pomona just a block from the proposed site.

There is a slight discrepancy between what Chi reported in his City Manager’s Update this week and the information supplied by the developer on the flyer created by the developer, MW Investment Group. Chi wrote that the development would be a 5-story structure containing 276 residential units with 7,180-square-feet of commercial space. The flyer says the development has: a proposed 284 residential units, 5-6 stories, ground floor retail/flex space, future public park, and public parking.

Chi’s update also reports that the amenities will include a gym, courtyard and roof deck. His weekly update this week also reported that there would be two live/work spaces.

The second meeting will be the following Monday from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the Community Room at the Monrovia Public Library, (321 S. Myrtle Ave.). The development to be discussed at this meeting does not yet have a name other than the address of the property, 123 W. Pomona. The 1.8-acre space is home to the Wine of the Month Club and encompasses the property just west of Primrose between Evergreen and Pomona avenues.

This development by Fifield Realty Corp is proposed to be a 7-story mixed-use project according to Chi. This project includes 310 apartment units of which 25 would be “affordable” according to the developer (Chi calls this “available at the ‘very low’ income level”). There would also be 10,000-square-feet of ground floor commercial space, a public plaza at the corner of Pomona and Primrose avenues, and 480 parking spaces (including 50 public parking spaces) would be created. The amenities proposed include a pool/spa, fitness center and rooftop decks.
