Now in it’s the 36th year, this community event honors the African American history and heritage. The festivities begin at 10 a.m. when the parade commences at Altadena’s Charles White Park (77 Mountain View St.) and proceeds south along Fair Oaks Ave.

The ever-popular Buffalo Soldiers on horseback will delight parade goers as well as the more traditional drum and dance groups who’ll brave the cooler temps this year.

Until reaching Jackie Robinson Park (1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave.) both parks are significant locations for this event Charles White Park is named for the acclaimed African-American artist, while Jackie Robinson Park commemorates the trail-blazing athlete. The Black History Festival will take place on Hammond Street and the north side of Robinson Park from noon-4:30 p.m. There will be fun activities for kids, music, displays and food for purchase.
