Pasadena students Noni Davis, Elijah Griffin, and Natalie White are three of four top scholarship recipients receiving $2,500 in financial aid and a new laptop from the California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC). Assemblymember Chris Holden (CA-41) announced the winners at his 18th Annual Block Party and Community Resource Fair on Aug. 5.
“The need for financial assistance to students who are pursuing higher education has never been greater,” said Assemblymember Chris Holden, CLBC Chair.
“I am pleased to announce on behalf of the Black Caucus the winners of this year’s Frederick M. Roberts Scholarship.”
Noni Davis, from Polytechnic High School will be attending Xavier University to pursue Biology. Elijah Griffin, from La Salle High School, will be going to Grinnell College and aspires to start a theatre company for African American youth in the future. Natalie White, from the Westridge School for Girls, is off to New York University where she aspires to become an architect. Also joining them on stage was Bryan Brown from Claremont High School.
The Frederick M. Roberts Scholarship was established by the CLBC in honor of California’s first known man of African American descent elected to the California State Assembly. Scholarship recipients receive $2,500 in financial assistance to help meet educational expenses. This year, Assemblymember Holden provided an additional $3,500 in scholarships to ten students in the 41st Assembly District.
