Daniel Alberto Aguilar, 37, threatened members of the police department in a note

By Terry Miller

On Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at approximately 1:20 PM, Pasadena Police personnel noticed a suspicious package placed near the police department’s north entrance door. Officers were unable to locate the owner, and out of abundance of caution and within normal suspicious package protocols, the immediate area was evacuated. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department’s Bomb Squad responded, and after carefully assessing the suspicious package, successfully rendered the package safe. Further examination of the package revealed threatening letters addressed to members of the police department, and items packaged in a manner resembling an explosive device.

Pasadena Fire Department’s Arson Investigator Sorensen, assisted with Pasadena Police personnel, conducted a comprehensive investigation that led to the identity and subsequent arrest of the suspect, who admitted to intentionally placing the threatening (suspicious) package.

The suspect has been identified as 37 year old male Daniel Alberto Aguilar,  a Pasadena resident. He was arrested Tuesday night, August 8, 2017 at approximately 10:30PM, without incident at his residence. Suspect Aguilar was booked for CA Penal Code 11418.1 – possessing/placing facsimile device of mass destruction with intent to cause fear. Bail is set at $50,000 and he is currently in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Friday, August 11, 2017, for filing consideration.
