Metallica Pays Homage to Local Band Van Halen for 60,000 Fans

60,000 metal fans in attendance for Metallica at the Rose Bowl. What a sight.
Reporter Rawl Paredes said, “When I was escorted to the front stage in front of the barriers you could feel the energy from the crowd. They started on time at 8:45 with a song from their latest album ‘hardwired to self -destruct’ with the title track ‘hardwired.’ They followed it with ‘halo on fire’ from the same album and then an old favorite ‘for whom the bell tolls’ the band even played tribute to local Pasadena rock legends Van Halen by busting into ‘running with the devil’ they only played a quarter of the song ‘That’s a little homage to the Pasadena boys,'” he continued. “‘Sorry you had to put up with that,’ Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett then launched into the opening riff of ‘You Really Got Me,’ with Hetfield adding, ‘That wasn’t too bad. That was kind of fun.’
Later in the set they played up front with a small set up like the old garage days and went into “seek and destroy” they mixed up a lot of their old to 90’s music in the whole set. I loved hearing their new songs personally. They did three songs in the encore “Battery” “Nothing else matters” and “Enter sandman ” over all a great energetic show and stage show was amazing for a full two hours.”
Just as the North American portion of the WorldWired tour was launching back in May, so was Lars’ very own Beats 1 online show on Apple Music. Lars’ show It’s Electric! airs each week on Sundays at 3:00 PM Pacific and takes an unscripted, unfiltered look into the wacky Danish mind of the drummer and the music that moves and motivates him. This week’s show kicks off three very unique, special episodes of music, stories, and interviews like you’ve never heard before as Lars hosts each of his bandmates, Kirk, Robert, and James!
First up in the hot seat is Kirk Hammett, airing this Sunday, July 30th with Robert on air next on August 6th; the Metallica series closes out with James on August 13th. A true first, Lars challenged the guys to come up with playlists of music that inspired them and contributed to the formation of each member as a musician and performer, making for three very different, dynamic shows.
Since It’s Electric premiered on May 7th, the show has featured guests Iggy Pop, Rancid’s Lars Frederiksen, Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows, Royal Blood, Kabul Dreams, Glastonbury Festival co-organizer Emily Eavis, Rolling Stone’s Kory Grow, So What! Magazine Editor Steffan Chirazi, and more.
