‘Rock Out’ for a Good Cause at Union Station Homeless Services’ 5K Run/Walk
Runners and “rock stars” will be racing to end homelessness on Saturday, May 14. The second annual Rockin’ for the Homeless 5K Run/Walk, created in collaboration with Union Station’s Young Leaders Society, will directly benefit Union Station Homeless Services. Check-in will be from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., with opening ceremonies beginning at 8:15 a.m.
Combining exercise with a rockin’ good time, this family-friendly event encourages participants to dress as their favorite rock star for a 5-kilometer run around Hahamongna Watershed Park near La Cañada. The Kiddie Dash offers young children a safe and fun obstacle course of their own. There will be race t-shirts and medals for all 5K participants, as well as a costume contest for best “rock star.”
Food trucks, including Kona Ice and Crepe’n Around, await participants at the finish line, along with the Roam.e Mobile Boutique. The event will once again feature live music from Head Lite View.
Rockin’ for the Homeless 5K was created by Union Station’s Young Leaders Society, a group of 80 young professionals between the ages of 21 and 39 years old who are dedicated to ending homelessness in our community. The group organizes various fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, and young professional networking events throughout the year. This event is expected to be even bigger than last year’s-the 5K run/walk is anticipated to host 500 runners and walkers, and raise more than $35,000 for Union Station Homeless Services.
“We are thrilled about bringing the community together again for our second annual 5K, raising important funds for a really great cause through a fun, outdoor event for people of all ages,” said Grace Kim, president of the Young Leaders Society (YLS) and a member of Union Station’s Board of Directors. “Our inaugural 5K last year was a big success, and YLS looks forward to growing the event each year and furthering our commitment to promoting the mission of Union Station and making a real difference in the world.”
The event is sure to bring people of all ages together to run, walk, and “rock and roll” for a great cause. All ticket sales and donations will support the ongoing efforts of Union Station Homeless Services, the San Gabriel Valley’s largest and most comprehensive nonprofit helping men, women, and children rebuild their lives and end homelessness.
