June gloom has momentarily subsided and summer is officially in the air. For those of you unable to enjoy the outdoor Southern California summertime weather yet still desperately seek an exotic vacation away from the everyday routine, you are in luck. For Love & Lemons founders, Laura Hall and Gillian Rose Kern, may have birthed the idea for a tropical dress collection nine months ago in the colder winter months, but now the collection is in full bloom and ready to whisk away its wearers to their next dream destination.
Both Hall and Kern grew up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and are all too familiar with winter weather, but they both had nothing but sandy beaches and sunny skies on the brain when plotting their next summertime collection.
“We were dreaming of tropical getaways and what we would wear when we embarked on them, so we drew a lot of inspiration from Hawaii and its tropical flowers. Think orchids, plumeria, and gardenia, and bright colors,” Hall and Kern said. “Is it that obvious that we designed the collection in the winter? Seriously, we were craving to design anything that we felt would go well with the beach and a coconut in hand, we think it shows.”
Hall and Kern said they felt Urban Outfitters made for a strong fit for the collaboration, offering a paralleled vision of their line.
“UO has some daring yet easy to wear pieces, much like ours, but places an emphasis on the effortless ‘cool,’ something that can transition from day to night with ease, again, much like the direction that FL&L takes,” Hall and Kern said. “It seemed like a no-brainer to collaborate with them on some of our favorite pieces to design, dresses.”
