Join Pasadena Heritage for our 2015 Spring Home Tour, Spectacular Spanish! Pasadena and our neighboring cities are known for their remarkable collection of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. On Sunday, March 29th docent-guided tours will be given at selected unique Pasadena and La Canada private residences, including the charming Marguerita Lane. The tour is self-driving, and visitors will tour privately owned homes. A lecture preceding the tour on Monday, March 23rd, will feature Michael Burch from Michael Burch Architects. His firm is internationally recognized for its work in the Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean Revival Styles perfected in California during the 1920s and ‘30s. The lecture will take place at the Pasadena Playhouse.
The 1920s and early 1930s was the peak of popularity in Spanish Colonial or Mediterranean Revival architecture in Southern California. Love of color, tile surfaces, carved wood, sculpted stucco and stone, and intricate metalwork, as well as the California climate that fosters indoor-outdoor living and lush planting made this style of architecture attractive. Our tour will include some of the residences designed by well-known architects for their wealthiest clients as well as some charming, more modest homes that make up our city’s landscape.
Tickets will go on sale now with advance purchase discounts. Same-day tour tickets may be purchased at the will-call location until 1:00 p.m. Call (626) 441-6333 for more information or visit www.pasadenaheritage.org.
