Former OC prosecutor at center of harassment scandal dies

A former longtime Orange County prosecutor who retired following allegations of sexual harassment that prompted multiple still-pending lawsuits against the county was found dead Friday in his Fullerton home.

Gary LoGalbo, who was best man at Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer’s wedding, was 57.

There was no official word on a cause of death, but there did not immediately appear to be any indications of foul play.

LoGalbo was accused of sexual and racial harassment by multiple prosecutors within the District Attorney’s Office, sparking two internal investigations that rocked Spitzer’s office and led to multiple lawsuits against the county.

An investigative report by attorney Elisabeth A. Frater, concluded in April of last year, substantiated the claims of sexual harassment.

LoGalbo was accused of making inappropriate racial and sexual remarks to subordinates while boasting he was immune to consequences because he was Spitzer’s best friend. Spitzer later condemned LoGalbo’s alleged conduct and distanced himself from his friend, but Frater determined in a follow-up report in January that Spitzer committed a “hostile and offensive” act when he disseminated her original report to everyone in the office.

LoGalbo was promoted to head up the North Justice Center in Fullerton in December 2019. He was promoted again in November 2020 to supervise all of the branch court operations, which prompted a complaint of sexual harassment. He decided to retire in mid-December 2020.
