

As of Thursday morning, U.S. Rep. Judy Chu and California Assemblymember Ed Chau, both incumbents, held a comfortable lead over their respective challengers.
Chu, a Democrat who was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2009, represents the 27th Congressional District and held 71.87% of votes counted as of the latest tallies, sailing to an easy reelection win. Republican challenger Johnny J. Nalbandian, a businessman who returned to politics in 2016 “Inspired by the energy of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign,” garnered 28.13% of votes counted so far.
Inthe 49th State Assembly District, Chau, a Democrat who was first elected to theseat in 2012, held a considerable lead with 67.93% of votes as of Thursday morning.Republican challenger Burton Brink trailed behind at 32.07% of votes counted,with 65.64% of votes reported. Chau appears to once again be on his way towinning reelection in the 49th District.
This isn’t the first time Chau and Brink face off. During the March Presidential Primary, Chau overwhelmingly defeated Brink, and Democrats Priscilla Silva and Bryan Mesinas Perez. Brink also lost to Chau back in 2018.
