Recently, the City of Arcadia released a Draft Historic Preservation Ordinance for public review and comment. The purpose of this Ordinance is to provide a framework to protect certain structures and resources that are important to the heritage or history of the City.
Following its release, however, a number of questions were raised by the public regarding the Draft Ordinance. As a result, the City has developed a Historic Preservation Fact Sheet to provide information regarding efforts to date. The Fact Sheet contains frequently asked questions and answers, provides a broad overview of the City’s ongoing community-based process, and summarizes the public comments the City has received on the Ordinance.
The Ordinance has not been adopted and there is currently no timeframe to do so. “We wanted to provide a definitive guide for Arcadia residents to review,” said Assistant City Manager/Development Services Director Jason Kruckeberg. “There is a fair amount of confusion about how a Historic Preservation Ordinance may impact Arcadia, and the Fact Sheet is intended to be a resource for residents.”
There will be additional opportunities for the public to review and comment on the Draft Ordinance and the merits of Historic Preservation. To ensure broad public outreach, the guide has been translated into simplified Chinese. In addition, a postcard is being mailed citywide that explains where to find the Fact Sheet. Please visit the City’s website at www.ArcadiaCA.gov/historicpreservation to view the Fact Sheet and for more information on the project.
