Acting Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. proclaimed a state of emergency in Los Angeles County on Thursday as yet another in a series of storms hit Southern California. The rains have caused minor mudflows in the local foothills.
The proclamation was made by Brown as Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Washington DC. The act will cut red tape and help emergency funding for the hardest-hit areas, under the California Disaster Assistance Act, and speed up federal disaster assistance, including help from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, county officials said.
The City of Sierra Madre declared a local emergency Wednesday evening and now is eligible to receive state aid with the clean up.
