Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger joined leaders from the Herald Christian Health Center (HCHC) Monday afternoon for a press conference, along with local city elected officials, to discuss the launch of COVID-19 vaccination hubs across the West San Gabriel Valley to serve seniors in under-served communities, teachers and essential workers. Herald Christian introduced vaccination hubs in the City of Monterey Park, the City of Arcadia, the City of Temple City and the City of Rosemead, which are available to community members by appointment on select dates.
To date, Herald Christian Health Center has administered the Moderna vaccine to more than 9,000 individuals throughout the West San Gabriel Valley. In partnership with the cities of San Gabriel, Monterey Park, Arcadia, Temple City and Rosemead, HCHC has helped overcome language, technology and transportation barriers for these hard-to-reach and under-served communities and provided equitable access to the vaccine for community members who are eligible but have not otherwise been able to get appointments.
The event took place at the San Gabriel Valley Mission Playhouse in the heart of the city of San Gabriel. Elected officials representing the cities of San Gabriel, Monterey Park, Arcadia, Rosemead and Temple City spoke of the importance of getting the vaccination sites to more underserved communities.
“Ensuring equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccine is critically important for our efforts to combat this global public health crisis,” Barger said in a statement. “It is a privilege to join with Herald Christian Health Center and local leaders in the community to support ample distribution of COVID-19 vaccine supply to help our residents stay safe and return to a sense of normalcy.”
