Pasadena Police Shoot Man During Traffic Stop

On Saturday, Aug. 15, at about 7:53 p.m., Pasadena police stopped a car occupied by two men for an alleged vehicle violation Raymond Avenue and Grandview Street.

During the traffic stop, one of the passengers “became uncooperative, preventing a search of his person,” according to police. The passenger ran into the street and allegedly removed a firearm from the waistband of his pants. An officer fired his weapon twice striking the person at least once in the upper torso. According to police, the person continued running as he discarded his firearm into the street.

Once the person stopped running police called paramedics when they determined he had been struck. The person was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department responded to the scene and assumed the officer involved shooting investigation.

According to media reports, a crowd formed after the shooting and resulted in one person in the crowd being tased and the police using pepper spay on those gathered.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
