The Federal Communications Commission Tuesday approved a $1 million award to the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services for the purchase of telehealth software, services and equipment to deliver real-time video visits with patients.

The FCC’s COVID-19 Telehealth Program supports the efforts of health care providers to serve patients by providing reimbursement for telecommunications services, information services and connected devices necessary to enable telehealth during the pandemic.

“As the impact of new variants continue to challenge our healthcare system, the FCC has worked diligently to review and approve funding commitments as part of our COVID-19 Telehealth Program,” said FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel.

“As we head into 2022, the ability to treat patients and loved ones from the safety of their home is of vital importance.”

The L.A. grant was one of 68 applications approved for funding nationwide, totaling more than $42 million. It was the federal agency’s fifth funding announcement of Round 2 applications, bringing the total to more than $208 million to health care providers around the country.
