Towne Street Theatre‘s (TST) Virtual Salon announced a Literary Series performance reading of “Sleep Well My Lady,” taking place live via Zoom on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.

The novel, written by Kwei Quartey, is about a private investigator named Emma Djan who investigates the death of the Ghanaian fashion icon and social media celebrity, Lady Araba. To solve the murder, the protagonist must not only go on an undercover mission that dredges up trauma from her past but also navigate a long list of suspects with strong motives.

The TST Literary Series, which has been a part of Town Street Theatre’s service since 2014, was created to “bring books by African-American authors to life,” with “Sleep Well My Lady” joining an impressive list of novels that have already been presented including Pamela Samuels Young’s “Anybody’s Daughter” and Dwayne Alexander Smith’s “Forty Acres.”

“Throughout Towne Street’s 27-year history, our main objective has been to seek justice and heal from racial disparities through the arts,” said Nancy Cheryll Davis, co-founder of TST and director of the reading. “We proudly present this reading to inspire contemplation, as well as to bring increased awareness of the powerful storytelling talents of today’s African-American writers.”

The reading will include selected excerpts from Quartey’s novel, and tickets for the reading are available on a “pay-what-you-can” basis. Reservations are available at https://tstsleepwellmylady.eventbrite.com.
