Authorities Monday arrested a man who led them on a car chase for nearly an hour from the downtown Los Angeles area to the Baldwin Park area.

The chase began about 8:15 a.m., when California Highway Patrol officers tried to pull over the motorist because the car had expired license plates, according to the CHP.

The motorist kept going, however, eventually going north on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway into the El Monte area.

About 8:45 a.m., the driver went onto the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway, then exited onto surface streets a short time later, and went back onto the 210 Freeway, heading westbound.

About 8:55 a.m., the car crashed into another vehicle on the freeway and sustained front-end damage, but kept going.

About 9 a.m., the car went back onto the southbound 605 Freeway and exited onto surface streets in the Baldwin Park area. A few minutes later, the motorist stopped in a residential area, got out of the car and surrendered. His name was not immediately available.
