Next Friday, August 7th, the Skirball Cultural Center plays host to Breakin’ Down the Beat, an evening of live music, cocktails, snacks, and poetry that questions social consciousness, rings voices of justice, and promotes cultural awareness.
Pay homage to the Beat Generation of the ’50s and ’60s with a new generation of poets—including Marc Bamuthi Joseph and Ise Lyfe—who are broadening the spectrum of spoken word. The lyrical performances of these acclaimed artists reveal the intersections between text, song, and movement, altogether demonstrating the visceral power of spoken word poetry.
