The controversial search engine Spokeo Inc.’s co-founder has filed suit against the website that is known for obtaining and disseminating personal information to anyone for a price. He is also suing two of his fellow co-founders, alleging he was unlawfully fired as CFO.

Ray Chen filed the lawsuit Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, in Los Angeles Superior Court against Spokeo co-founders Eric Liang and Harrison Tang, as well as Michael Daly, who the suit states is a current Spokeo director and stakeholder.

The suit alleges wrongful discharge, retaliation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Chen, who remains a member of Spokeo’s directors, seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
Update:
We received a statement from Spokeo via e-mail this morning:

“Ray Chen is one of the original founders of Spokeo and was instrumental in the company’s growth. On May 21, 2015, Spokeo’s board of directors made the difficult decision to end the employment relationship with Mr. Chen due to differences of opinion about the strategic direction of the business. However Mr. Chen remains actively involved with Spokeo as a member of its board of directors.”
