The public is invited to attend a nonpartisan candidates’ forum on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at the Maranatha High School Student Center, hosted by the West Pasadena Residents’ Association, in cooperation with the Linda Vista-Annandale Association and the Madison Heights Neighborhood Association. All candidates for mayor and District 6 City Council have confirmed they will participate.

Mayor Terry Tornek faces three challengers in the March 3, 2020, election, including District 5 Councilmember Victor Gordo, former City Commissioner Jason Hardin, and businessman Major Williams. In west Pasadena, District 6 Councilmember Steve Madison faces two challengers, attorney Tamerlin Godley and nonprofit executive Ryan Bell.

At the forum, candidates will answer questions about issues affecting west Pasadena, including such topics as homelessness, crime, growth and development, reclaiming the 710 stub, affordable housing, public education, and suicide prevention on the Colorado Street Bridge.

Maranatha High School is located at 169 S. Saint John Ave. in west Pasadena. Parking is available in the underground structure on St. John, just past the Student Center. The limited surface parking next to the Student Center is for those with mobility difficulties. The doors will open at 5:45 p.m. with an opportunity to meet and greet the candidates following the program. The program will begin promptly at 6:15 p.m.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote on March 3, the two with the most votes will square off in a runoff election on Nov. 3, 2020.
