After Day-Long Search for Killer, Pasadena has Suspect in Custody

At approximately 9:30 a.m. last Friday, a suspect critically wounded a resident on Euclid Ave. opposite to the Pasadena Convention Center. Police were swift and meticulous in their search for an armed and extremely dangerous man.

Pasadena Fire Department paramedics also responded and transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition. At the hospital, the victim underwent surgery and later succumbed to his wounds. The victim has been identified as Byron Young Nettles, male, 52-years old, Pasadena resident.

Officers set up a perimeter containment to search for the suspect who reportedly fled on foot.

Robbery-Homicide Detectives responded to the scene for further investigation. Preliminary investigation suggests the incident was not random in nature. A motive for the stabbing remains under investigation. The victim resided in the 100 block of S. Euclid Ave., Pasadena.

Detectives diligently continued their investigation and requested the U.S. Marshal’s – Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force to surveil a location in Los Angeles.

At approximately 9:26 p.m., Telly R. Johnson, male, 41-years old, Los Angeles, CA, resident was booked for murder at the Pasadena City Jail with bail set at $2,000,000.

Johnson was apprehended without incident in the 1900 block of Cordova St. in Los Angeles. Detectives also executed a search warrant at a residence and vehicle in the same block.

The investigation is on-going and no further information is being released at this time.
