A ‘Compassionate Police Department Award’ from PETA to the South Pasadena Police Department will arrive on the Chief’s desk soon. The animal rights group acknowledges to the rescue of a little dog trapped in a burning home last Thursday afternoon in South Pasadena.
Cpl. Craig Phillips and Officer Brian Wiley kicked in the home’s door and went from room to room, searching for residents. They discovered 1-year-old Kolby the dog cowering in a corner and took him to safety. He was later reunited with his grateful guardian.
“These brave officers made every effort to ensure that no living being was trapped inside this burning house,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “Local residents are lucky to have such kind emergency responders who don’t hesitate to help humans and animals in need.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—encourages all animal guardians to put a sign on doors or windows to alert rescue workers to the presence of companion animals. Families can order stickers from the PETA Catalog or make their own.
