The Los Angeles County Fire Department reported the blaze was burning at 9501 San Gabriel Road near Morris Dam at about 2 p.m.

The fire, dubbed the Dam Fire, ran uphill in heavy brush. However firefighters in the Irwindale/ Duarte checkpoint told Beacon Media that fixed wing aircraft and helicopters got to the relatively small fire fast and that the conditions were much better as the fire would “burn itself out” uphill.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LAFD) now reports that the Dam Fire stands at 217 acres with 40% containment. LAFD continues to provide support, including four camp crews, paramedics and command staff.

Highway 39 remains closed at Old San Gabriel Canyon Road. East Fork Road is also closed.
