State of the City Address Will be Jan. 29
Each year the mayor and members of the City Council address the entire community and present the “State of the City” in a relatively brief presentation. This is an opportunity to learn not only what has been done in the preceding year, but also discover what other plans are in the works. The event is free and open to the public (there is often even free popcorn — no promises). It will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29th at Studio Movie Grill.
Library Workshop on Bullet Journaling Set for Saturday
There will be a workshop on bullet journaling this Saturday, Jan. 18 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Library Community Room. Not only will participants learn how to create a “bullet journal” but all supplies will be provided. This 2-hour workshop will leave those involved with a 2020 journal ready to be filled in.
Donations Being Sought for Hospitalized Veterans
The Monrovia Veterans Resource Center at the Library is again partnering with the local American Legion Women’s Auxiliary to support military personnel who are hospitalized while recovering from injuries sustained during their service. There are certain items in demand, including:
- White socks for men and women.
- Coloring books for adults.
- Colored pencils, markers and pens.
- Board and card games for adults.
These items can be taken to the large blue box in the Library’s main lobby. They should be taken this month as the Auxiliary will be gathering the items at that time. Contact the Adult Services Librarian, Mabel Cross at (626) 256-8294 with any questions.
Sandbags Available During the Rainy Season
As they have for many years, the city is making sandbags available to residents along with the gravel to fill them. The bags are available at the Public Works Yard on Mountain Avenue, Fire Station 101 on Lemon by City Hall, and the Community Center on Palm. The gravel can be found in a bin at the parking lot at the Skate Park in Recreation Park. Residents need to bring their own shovel, gloves and eye protection for gathering gravel.
