To continue to follow the recommendation of the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), Arcadia Unified School District (AUSD) will extend district and campus closures. As of now, AUSD plans on reopening schools on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.
Earlier in the week, Governor Newsom projected that schools might not return until the summer. While no definitive timelines have been set by the county or state beyond May 5, AUSD continues to work on contingency plans for the possibility of extended closures.
While campuses are closed, teachers and staff are still working remotely and providing optional online opportunities for our students. Teachers and staff are providing the following for students and families:

Distance Learning Opportunities for Students
- Many teachers and staff have already provided optional coursework and enrichment opportunities for students. More will continue to do so.
- Staff has also created a special website with additional optional resources for all students, including Special Education and English Language Learners. This website will continue to be updated.
- For now, students will not be graded, penalized, or held accountable for instruction or learning materials provided during this time of school closures, all offerings are optional.
- All students, including non-AUSD students, may utilize these educational resources.
State Testing
All standardized testing has been canceled for the remainder of the school year per state and federal recommendations.
Arcadia Unified Emergency Resolution
The Arcadia Board of Education passed an emergency resolution enabling Superintendent David Vannasdall to “take all appropriate action to respond to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic” without a prior board approval.
To continue to follow local and state guidelines, the board meeting on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, will be a virtual meeting. Information will be available on the AUSD website as soon as it is ready.
Work Continues for Staff
Nutrition Services is serving meals to students. The custodial staff has been essential in helping to provide proper sanitation for Nutrition Services and maintaining safe and clean campuses district-wide.
Teachers are still working to support their students and collaborating with each other and staff.
District departments like payroll services are still working. The superintendent’s executive team continues with daily meetings and continues to participate in daily teleconferences with school district superintendents from across L.A. County and education officials, monitoring local, state and national press briefings to ensure proper adaptation of the latest recommendations, guidelines, and orders.
