Raw Inspirations, the new managers of the Monrovia Street Fair, held their official launch last Friday night.

The company began running the event a few weeks ago and Raw Inspiration used that time to make adjustments to the event, in hopes of improving it. Several new features have been added to increase the enjoyment of everyone.

To highlight the formal “kickoff” there was a “virtual” fireworks program. This consisted of a large screen being hoisted at the corner of Walnut and Myrtle Avenues. Fireworks recorded from around the world were then displayed on the massive screen.

The new fair will also place an emphasis on children during the first Friday night of each month. To this end, there were special events for the little ones, including a special stage with music catering to younger tastes.

Last Friday, the featured artist was a young woman who called herself “Peanut.” She gathered quite a following among the hokey pokey, wiggly, giggly crowd. They call this new area the Samson. There was even a changing table for the very young set.

Perhaps the best feature of the Street Fair is the greatly expanded farmers’ market. There are more vendors, with a wider range of products. There are even more “arts and crafts” vendors offering different products and services (I confess to buying a hand-made “bedroom basketball” from the woman who made it). Another innovative service is the knife sharpener who really seemed to know his stuff, as he was discussing the proper angle for honing blades.

Each week there seems to be something new.
