The fifth annual celebration of Pasadena’s diverse LGBTQIA+ community is set for this weekend with another free, family-friendly event featuring entertainment and social connection in the heart of the city.
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is sponsoring this year’s Pasadena Pride Month Celebration on Saturday, June 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave.
Attendees will see and hear live performances by singer-songwriter Virr and local drag icons presented by 2 Hot 2 Handle, featuring Rock M. Sakura. Arts-and-crafts activities, dance contests, inflatables and a photo opportunity organized by Girl Squad Media are also part of the celebration.
“Pasadena Pride brings our community together to honor and support our LGBTQIA+ neighbors, friends, and family members while creating a space where everyone feels welcome and valued,” PRCS Department Director Koko Panossian said in a statement. “We are excited to host this celebration and invite the community to join us for an evening of connection, joy and pride.”
Gilbert B. Weingourt, described by event organizers as “the famous, unknown underground photographer,” will have a photo display titled “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” that features participants and artistic depictions of their joy in Pride.
Eventgoers will also have the opportunity to connect with local LGBTQIA+ organizations, community partners, allies and city departments.
Food from local food trucks will be available for purchase.
Support for this year’s event is from HRC Fertility, Pasadena Management Association, Girl Squad Media, The Boulevard bar and Fat Boys.
“For nearly 40 years, HRC has centered patient care around three tenets – excellence, compassion, and inclusivity,” Kerry Ayazi, administrative president of HRC Fertility, said in a statement. “Our physicians and patient care teams have long stood by the LGBTQ+ community — ensuring that patients can access the healthcare they need to support their family building journeys. We are delighted to sponsor Pasadena Pride — the home of our first practice location, and we are grateful to continue serving and growing our community.”
