The Board of Supervisors last week approved a $16.4 million contract between the San Bernardino County Transitional Assistance Department and the county Housing Authority to provide housing support services for families experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

More than 600 families who receive CalFresh assistance will get help paying rent and utility bills, transportation, childcare, job readiness support and housing navigation, officials said. Families will also receive individualized case management to promote long-term housing stability.

Officials said funding is 52% federal and 48% state to support a three-year program.

CalFresh is the state’s version of the federally funded food and nutrition program known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which bolsters household food budgets.

Most of the 2,620 unsheltered people counted in the 2025 countywide homelessness survey were adults age 18 or older. Nine families consisting of 13 adults and 13 children were reported to be experiencing unsheltered homelessness.

Overall homelessness in the county, including individuals living in shelters or transitional housing, totaled 3,821.

The council-approved contract that details the services to be provided is available online via tinyurl.com/4tcek67u.
